RANGE PHOTOS

This page is a place for us to display examples of just some of our work, from the simple to the complex. We plan for this page to be constantly under revision so you may want to return from time to time.  If you have questions about anything you see here, just give us a call or send us an e-mail.

SUPER TRAP® (STI) FULLY TACTICAL FIRING RANGE

Photo 1: This is a fully tactical firing range. This range offers tactical shooting from the firing line down to the face of the target.  This range site has complete ballistic protection utilizing ballistic rubber tiles (BRT’s) on all overhead baffles, walls, and the ceiling over the shooting booth at the 25 yard line.

This is the same 10 gauge galvanized steel framed system as shown in the following outdoor photograph.

There are no parts to replace in STI’s Super Trap® backstops.

USN - HOMELAND SECURITY RANGE FROM SUPER TRAP®

Photo 2: This Super Trap®, like all of STI’s range Super Trap® backstops, allows for full “tactical” shooting up to the foot of the backstop. We at STI believe this will enhance weapons training which will hopefully translate into more Servicemen and Police Officers lives being saved in the field.`

The blocks shown in front of the backstop are SACON® and protect metal targetry stands.

SUPER TRAP® REPLACES LOW-INCLINE STEEL TRAP

Photo 5: This photo reveals the safer and superior quality technology of the new Super Trap® bullet trap installed here that replaced a low-incline steel trap at this Eastern United States Police Department location. The old trap which was replace is shown in Photo 6, below.

Photo 6: This is the "before" photo of the damaged and worn original low-incline steel trap which was replaced by the Super Trap® Bullet Trap  shown above.

SUPER TRAP® OUTDOOR RANGE WITH SACON®

Photo 9: One of two GelCor® ranges at this facility. This range is so environmentally friendly it is situated approximately fifty feet from an  Army Corps of Engineers designated "wetlands" area. As with other projects, STI was, again, the only range company who met the stringent environmental regulations established for this very sensitive environmentally fragile site.

SUPER TRAP® RANGES EASILY OPERATE IN ANY CLIMATE

Photo 10: A Super Trap® can easily withstand adverse weather conditions. For example here, all that needs to be done is to marker-stake the corners so trainees know where the trap is under the snow and shoot.

SUPER TRAP® FULLY TACTICAL HYBRID RANGE

Photo 11: Hybrid indoor/outdoor tactical shooting range utilizing Super Trap® technology. The "ceiling" is open air except for baffles and targetry tracks. This is also an excellent example of a well maintained range slope face.

Photo 12: The hybrid range, looking down range from the firing line toward their Super Trap®  firing range backstop, as shown above.

SUPER TRAP® INDOOR RANGE

Photo 13: The police department in this city replaced two of their six steel traps and after approximately eighteen months of trial on these two ranges they subsequently replaced the remaining four steel ranges with Super Trap® ranges

Photo 16: A 100 yard indoor Super Trap® rifle range. This range also has a “tactical” portion from the trap out to 25 yards to accommodate a possible future overload of pistol shooters on their 25 yard “tactical” range.

Photo 18: An officer shooting in the tactical zone. The footprint of this older, existing range was shortened by 3 feet using SACON® blocks as a front wall in order to ensure enough shooting distance to meet POST requirements.

SUPER TRAP® TEST FIRING RANGE FOR THE USMC

Photo 19: US Marine Corps .50 BMG Caliber Test Range with a Super Trap® Backstop. Unlike the usual marksmanship training ranges we have built for the Marine Corps in other locations, this range is for the test firing of infantry weapons before they are sent out to the Fleet Marine Force.

SUPER TRAP® OUTDOOR RANGE

Photo 20: A side view of an outdoor Super Trap® firing range backstop installed on galvanized steel frames. This is another example of a well maintained slope.

Photo 21: A front view of the above outdoor Super Trap® range backstop.

NOTE 1: In the future, this galvanized steel range backstop system can be relocated to another site in the event that the customer desires to do so.

NOTE 2: The used railroad ties seen above (in Photo 21) here are not recommended by STI as a solution to protecting targetry. There are alternate ballistic materials that are far superior including Shock Absorbing Concrete® (SACON®)  which was developed by the US Army Corps of Engineers.

SUPER TRAP® OUTDOOR RANGE FOR THE USMC - FAR EAST

Photo 22: USMC - Far East, Super Trap® outdoor range.

NOTE 3: This small section of a larger Super Trap® was constructed for the USMC to test the Super Trap® technology for one year. The Marines had tested this Super Trap® firing range backstop for less than 2 months when they decided that no further testing was necessary and proceeded to order the immediate completion of the Super Trap® range seen immediately below.

Photo 23: USMC - side view of completed Super Trap® backstop.

NOTE 4: This Super Trap was constructed for the USMC as a result of the their particular needs at this site. Generally a Super Trap's slope is terminated at the foot with no obstruction. In some instances a retention plate is utilized. Super Trap's are often custom built to suit a Client's needs due to the Client's pre-existing conditions at their range site.

SUPER TRAP® GELCOR® RANGE FOR THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE

Photo 24: This photo was taken at the time of completion of one of two GelCor® Super Trap® ranges constructed in one of our National Parks for the National Park Service (NPS). This shooting range backstop is bordered by SACON®. Again making STI the only range company who met the stringent environmental regulations established by the NPS for this most environmentally sensitive site.

SUPER TRAP® OUTDOOR TRAP REPLACED LOW-INCLINE STEEL TRAP

Photo 25: This is a recent installation behind an existing elevated shooting platform. It replaced a steel trap and the Rangemaster now notes they are experiencing improved sound deadening even though the trap is outdoors.

SUPER TRAP®'s OUTDOOR BULLET TRAP TRAINING ADVANTAGE

Photo 26: These police officers are taking advantage of their ability to train close-quarters in the "Tactical Zone" thanks to their Super Trap® range backstop.

TIGHT-SPACE FIRING RANGE

SUPER TRAP® Gel-Cor® Bullet trap with SACON®

Photo 31: This photo is of the second of two GelCor® Super Trap® ranges constructed in one of our National Parks for the National Park Service (NPS). This shooting range backstop is bordered by SACON®. Again this made STI the only range company who met the stringent environmental regulations established by the NPS for this  environmentally sensitive site.

LES BAER SUPER TRAP® RANGE PROJECT - 1

Photo 32: Les Baer's original Super Trap® test range in Illinois completed in June of 1999. This nearly 10 year old Super Trap® has seen a very heavy volume of fire for a small range. Note that the pile of brass seen in the photo is the result of only three days of test firing.

LES BAER SUPER TRAP® RANGE PROJECT - 2

Photo 33: Les Baer (left) and STI’s Art Fransen inspecting Les Baer’s second Super Trap® range during commissioning of the new Super Trap® at Les Baer’s new facility in Iowa. Note: This Super Trap® was restricted to a lower profile due a limited ceiling height. Les Baer’s new range also incorporate STI’s ELIxIR® which verifiably immobilizes lead to three parts per million (3ppm) which is significantly below the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) threshold of 5ppm. Bottom line: NO LEAD PROBLEM!
